So our plan is to cover all the spots around Jamaica that locals have recommended, avoiding tourist traps like Montego Bay. So this week we headed from the Blue Mountains over to Portland Parish, where Jerk is said to have originated. Me and my partner both being vegan didn’t try any of the jerk chicken although 10 years ago I would have loved to. My change in values now aligns more with ital cooking and rasta culture that is abundant across the country. Despite not being able to try the jerk, some of the best nature I’ve seen was here, perfect beaches without many tourists.
The blue lagoon was also a highlight, the only issue with our stay was our Airbnb. Unfortunately that week we had torrential rain and our airbnb was pretty grim. Dirty, dimly lit and all the rain would come down the walls. The house would be almost partially flooded constantly. We met some other travellers from Mongolia who endured it with is which made our time a little better, but at the end of the week we couldn’t wait to get out of there.
